 研究概要
 カイコは古くから遺伝学の材料として用いられてきました。これまでに収集された突然変異系統の中には、休眠・眠性・化性・食性など、害虫防除の上でターゲットとなるだけでなく、生物学全体に大きなインパクトを与える、極めて重要な変異体が含まれています。ところが、カイコの分子遺伝学は大きく立ち遅れていたため、その豊富な遺伝資源は半ば手付かずの状態で残されてきました。
 そして近年、カイコの全ゲノム配列が決定されたことで、カイコの遺伝学は新たな局面を迎えようとしています。私は、ゲノム情報とトランスポゾンという強力な遺伝学的ツールを駆使して、休眠性・眠性・化性・食性といった鱗翅目昆虫に特有の生命現象に挑みたいと考えています。
